Barry W. Wilford, Esq.

Barry Wilford graduated from the Capital University School of Law and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1977. He served as Law Clerk for the Ohio Court of Appeals until February, 1979, when he accepted a position on the Franklin County Public Defender’s felony trial staff. Opened his own private crimminal defense law practice in 1987. In November 1996, he partnered with James P. Kura, Esq. to establish Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A. (now Kura, Wilford & Schregardus Co., L.P.A.), and has since maintained this private criminal defense law practice, largely concentrated on pursuing legal remedies for Ohio inmates.

Mr. Wilford is a member of the Bar of the State of Ohio, the Bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the Bar of the Sixth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, and the Bar of the United States United Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Ohio Corrections Association, and is a director of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He served as the association’s president in 2006 and, since 2001 as its Public Policy Director, providing representation at the statehouse on pending criminal justice legislation. In 2012 Mr. Wilford was awarded the association’s designation as “Defense Lawyer of the Year.”

Sarah M. Schregardus, Esq.

Sarah Schregardus graduated cum laude from the Capital University School of Law and was admitted to the Ohio Bar. While in law school, she served as an extern for the Hon. Greg Frost of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Ohio.

After her admission to the Ohio Bar, Ms. Schregardus served as a Assistant Public Defender with the Office of the Ohio Public Defender, in its Post-conviction and Appellate/Legal Division. In 2009, she began working in Prison Legal Services Division at the Corrections Reception Center, where she gained experience in defending felony offenders charged with parole violations and in post-release control by the Adult Parole Authority. She also represented inmates, before the Ohio Parole Board, at contested Open Full Board Hearings.

Ms. Schregardus has argued in 11 of the 12 Ohio appellate districts, the Supreme Court of Ohio, and the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. She has extensive litigation experience with criminal appeals, and post-conviction actions. She also has across the board knowledge of most legal matters that affect offenders who are held in the custody of the ODRC (Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction).

In 2010 Ms. Schregardus opened her private law practice in Columbus serving as counsel to Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A. In February 2013, Ms. Schregardus formed a new partnership with Kura & Wilford, becoming Kura, Wilford & Schregardus Co., L.P.A. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Public Policy Committee for the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, lobbying alongside Mr. Wilford in this capacity. She has also been voted a “rising star” by Super Lawyers 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. 

Ms. Schregardus is licensed to practice in all Ohio courts, all Ohio federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S Supreme Court. She is a member of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (OACDL) and the Ohio State Bar Association. She also serves on the OACDL board of trustess  on behalf of the Ohio Justice Alliance for Community Corrections (OJACC).
